One of our goals at Finding Hope is to empower women - speaking encouragement over their lives about who God created them to be.
The women in El Porvenir are beautiful, fierce, passionate, capable individuals who can accomplish great things.
We believe in them and their capacity to decide what their future and life can be.
We spend a lot of time with the women in our community, getting to know them and their hearts, hear their dreams, and learn about the tough situations they have faced and are still facing in their daily lives.
There’s a lot we can say to encourage and pray over them, but sometimes words just aren’t enough.
A lot of the struggles that these women face are the same – they got pregnant very young, stayed with the guy, dropped out of school, and now have an abusive husband and no means to leave and find a new home.
Lack of education, work, and money are all forces that work together to make a seemingly impossible to overcome situation. Women are without hope of a different future, because the same thing happened to their mom, their grandmother, and all the women they know. They are told to just “get over it” because it’s normal.
Our answer to this issue, through many prayers, has been to open a Women’s shelter.
A place of rest where women in these types of situations can catch their breath and figure out what they are going to do with their future.
They will not have to worry about paying for rent, childcare, or food. They will have many responsibilities and there will be a lot of structure to the living situation, but the purpose is for them to feel safe, secure, and well taken care of.
We want to take time to speak purpose into their lives and help them figure out what the next steps are, if that is going back to school or looking for a stable job.
Our hope is to provide a place where all who enter feel the safe, secure, trustworthy embrace of the Lord.
That they would feel like they are able to create a brighter future for themselves and their family without having to stress about where their child’s next meal will come from or if they will get kicked out of their house.
